À l’affiche deux soirs seulement au Goethe-Institut

Montréal, le 10 mai 2010 – Le public est invité à la première nord-américaine du film Kinski Jesus Christ Erlöser (Kinski Jesus Christ Saviour) du réalisateur allemand Peter Geyer. Présenté en exclusivité au Goethe-Institut, 418 Sherbrooke Est, le vendredi 21 mai 2010 à 21 h et le samedi 22 mai 2010 à 20 h.

Le 20 novembre 1971, Klaus Kinski a voulu raconter la plus grande histoire de l’humanité : la vie de Jésus. Non pas le Jésus de la Bible, l’homme religieux, mais plutôt l’homme d’aventures qui s’est battu pour ses opinions et la vérité. Ce monologue fut un retentissant échec. Kinski s’est vu confronté à un public hostile, des spectateurs qui n’étaient pas là pour se faire sermonner…

Présenté en première mondiale à la Berlinale 2008, Kinski Jesus Christus Erlöser, du réalisateur Peter Geyer, est le témoin chaotique de cette soirée où un Kinski fragile tente de gérer les insultes et de terminer sa performance à une période où la société, en pleine mutation, remet tout en question, de l’autorité à la religion en passant par la conception même de l’art.

En utilisant des images captées pendant cette soirée, Peter Geyer a recréé la chronologie des événements. Il offre un regard très intime et percutant sur la passion et le dévouement de Klaus Kinski, acteur exceptionnel au caractère colérique, mais au talent immense et au charisme impressionnant.

Présenté par Mathieu Dubois, jeune promoteur qui a découvert le film par hasard lors d’un séjour à Berlin, ce document historique saura capter l’attention d’un public divers : fans, cinéphiles, acteurs, sociologues, curieux…

Le film est présenté en version originale allemande avec sous-titres anglais.

Montreal, May 10, 2010 – The public is invited to the North-American premiere of the film Kinski Jesus Christ Erlöser (Kinski Jesus Christ Saviour) from German director Peter Geyer. Presented in exclusivity at the Goethe-Institut, 418 Sherbrooke East, Friday, May 21, 2010 at 9 p.m. and Saturday, May 22, at 8 p.m.

On November 20, 1971, Klaus Kinski wanted to tell mankind’s most exciting story – The story of Jesus Christ. But he couldn’t. The stage performance of the scandal-ridden actor kept being interrupted by an audience that did not want a sermon, but a discussion instead.

Presented in world premiere at the Berlinale 2008, Kinski Jesus Christus Erlöser, from director Peter Geyer, is the chaotic witness of this evening gone awry, where a fragile Kinski tries to handle insults and the public resistance to his monologue at a time where society is changing fast and confronts everything from authorities to religion, even the concept of art.

Using footages and sound recordings of the evening, Peter Geyer recreates the chronology of the event. It’s a unique view on the passion and devotion of this exceptional actor, who is quick-tempered and has an excessive ego, but also a powerful talent and charisma.

Presented by Mathieu Dubois, a young promoter who discovered this film while in Berlin, this historic document will capture the attention of a vast audience: fans, film enthusiasts, actors, sociologists, and the curious…..

The film will be presented in its original German language with English subtitles.

At times, Klaus Kinski's reputation as a provocateur seemed to overshadow his prowess as an actor. Peter Geyer's new full-length documentary Jesus Christus Erlöser (Jesus Christ Saviour) seems to support the notion that prevarication was an integral and inseparable part of the actor's work. Geyer's film documents Klaus Kinski's November 20th, 1971 theatrical reading at Deutschlandhalle in Berlin. It was on this evening that the golden-locked, hippy-garbed Kinski engaged an audience of thousands in a reading of a 30 plus page interpretation of the story of Jesus Christ.

The audience quickly took umbrage at Kinski's readings, and the evening turned into a multiple-hour battle of heated words and raised fists.

On y apprend que Kinski s'est vu "forcé" à jouer dans Aguirre, Wrath of God, suite à l'échec de sa performance et l'annulation de la tournée qui se devait d'être mondiale. Sans ça, il y aurait possiblement jamais eu de collaboration avec Werner Herzog!
